[...] Rose by any other name” posted this great picture… Just a nice picture. This photo is by Mark Bialek (freelance photographer) and I just wanted to share it with [...]
Now that’s just beautiful!
Thanks for the link!
I can’t decide if I like the night sky or the golden light more, Hapkido!
Anna,
Unless you’ve been in an unfortunate accident, I’d always say go for the light!
“Go into the light…” Now, why am I thinking Poltergeist here?!
One of the reasons I started a category called “Beauty” on my blog was because there are some great pictures that should be seen and appreciated.
Did you see this music video, yet Anna? (third down)
http://ymarsakar.wordpress.com/2007/05/06/the-women/
I thought it evoked some strong emotion, personally.
My wife keeps whispering that to me while I’m sleeping. I think she’s plotting something…
I tagged you by the way ;P
“into the light” reminds me of Twin Peaks; when Agent Cooper cradles Laura Palmer’s Dad as he’s dying.
Slightly off-topic, but…oh well:
Leland: Oh God! Laura! I killed her! Oh my God, I killed my daughter!
I didn’t know… forgive me… Oh God! I was just a boy… I saw
him in my dream… he said he wanted to play… he opened me, and I
invited him, and he came inside me! When he was in me, I didn’t
know… and when he was gone, I couldn’t remember! Made me do things
–terrible things… he said he wanted lives… he wanted others,
others that they could use… like they used _me_!!
Cooper: Like Laura.
Leland: They wanted her… but she was strong! She fought ‘em! She wouldn’t
let ‘em in! Oh God! They had me kill that girl Theresa! And they
said if I didn’t give ‘em Laura, they’d have me kill her… too!
Cooper: But she wouldn’t let them in.
Leland: She said she’d die before she’d let them… so they made me kill her!
Oh, God, have mercy on me! What have I done! What have I done! Oh,
God! _I_love_her_!! I love her, with all my heart! My angel,
forgive me….
[Harry, Albert, and Hawk move back to the door, leaving Cooper with
Leland cradled in his arms.]
Cooper: Leland. Leland, the time has come for you to seek the path. Your
soul has set you face to face with the clear light and you are about
to experience it in its reality, wherein all things are like the void
and cloudless sky and the naked spotless intellect is like a trans-
parent vacuum without circumference or center. Leland, in this
moment, know yourself, and abide in that state. Look to the light,
Leland, find the light.
[Leland's face is transfigured by joy....]
Leland: I see it!
Cooper: Into the light, Leland, into the light.
Leland: I see… her! She’s… there!
Cooper: Into the light, Leland.
Leland: She’s beautiful!
Cooper: Into the light….
Leland: Laura!
Cooper: Don’t be afraid….
[Leland suddenly stares, looking into the other world, and sags in
Cooper's arms. Cooper, dripping water, weeps....]
Thanks for the link to the video, Ymarsakar! Very nice.
Hmmm, Stew, I think you ought to be VERY nice to your lovely wife!
I actually remember that scene, Word! Yes, we watched Twin Peaks…a very different, yet cool show.
Nice to see my picture up here. I’m selling glossy 11×17 prints
if anyone is interested. I also have an interesting story behind this photo. It was a totally candid shot. Glad you like it.

Thanks for stopping by, Mark! And yes, your photo is a hit!
had to save it to my computer – will make a spectacular background.
Hadn’t thought of that, Douglas! Good idea!
Save it to your computer, yes. But don’t forget the artist that sweat and ran through rose bushes to capture this image.
I put my heart and soul into finding great pictures. I wish more would appreciate it – not just by copying and posting to a website, and making a screen-saver, but by buying the image from it’s creator. Every piece of art comes from somewhere; some person who took it upon themselves to find or create it.
I paid the price. Lots of sleepless nights, enterprising. Lots of dud lightning storms. Lots of lightning pics, but just pics of lightning striking into the sky. To make an image like this, where you get a sense of awe and scale, and drama of the storm, plus a sense of how small we are in this world and how dreams are everything, you have to be persistent. But more than that, I had to have a sense in my mind, that there’s something much greater out there watching over us. And that, as a photographer, I can reach upon a much higher power to find an image that makes people go wow. In fact, I’m inspired by a greater power. In Spirit, or inspired, is how I was on that shoot. This image means a lot to me. I stayed up endless nights searching for something that readers would like.
What do you all do for a living? Do you post highlights of your career on this site and then offer them up to any screensaver?
Point is, someone had to take that picture that makes your computer background spectacular. It’s one of many, yes. But it’s mine, and I worked my butt off to find it.
I’m sorry I used your image without payment. I didn’t mean to offend. I have removed it. My posting of it was to share the beauty of your photo and I apologize for using it without proper authority.
Not sure why Bialek took offense to Gibbs comment. Do artists just want to labor in obscurity or something?
If there’s a copyright violation, all it takes is a request, either private or public. If people want to talk about what they put into their pictures and why they are steamed that people aren’t buying it, that’s another issue.
I know why a person might not like folks using their photo, that they worked for, as background for their computers. But knowing and understanidng aren’t the same things.
Sorry for the rant. I was just upset the other day about another assignment. I shouldn’t have taken it out on you guys. No, this image was actually put on the AP wire years ago. I don’t have a problem posting it on this site. And I don’t want to labor in obscurity!
It’s OK, Mark. You made a good point and yes, I do understand.
Wow its a small world.
My name is Mark Bialek as well.
And guess what.
I’m also a freelance photographer from Australia.
I feel your pain regarding the picture being used.
However its nice to see a positive result in the end…
Take care..
P.s Can the real Mark email me….I think we might be related..
haha….
Are you really a photographer from Australia named Mark Bialek? Yes, maybe we’re related. Not a very common name.
