For those who thought to “teach a lesson” to the Republican party by either voting against them or not voting at all, your message was heard loud and clear and not necessarily by those in office. Unfortunately you didn’t think about how that lesson would be received by those whose very futures depend on who sits in power in Washington, DC. I certainly hope you are happy with the results of your “lesson!”
A letter from a soldier in Iraq at A Soldier’s Perspective – “What Have We Done?“

“What is this dagger I see before me? Does it come from my heat o’pressd brain?” — MacBeth
The rants of the Democrats is only exceeded by the screams of ‘Allah is greater’ in the Arab world. The dagger in this case is going to be delivered by Murtha and others unless the blue dog Dems like Gene Taylor reign them in.
Anna, I pray for the moderate Dems to have the strength to stand up to their far left leaders. Not for the sake of the Republicans, but for the sake of our military and especially those serving in Iraq and throughout the Middle East.
This reminds me of Antietam for some reason, and the events leading up to it.
very sad indeed…
I hope not Ymarsakar! I realize that we tend not to learn from our mistakes, but let’s hope the loss of life is not the same as Antietam!
It is sad, Brooklyn, and that soldier’s letter really broke my heart and made me so very angry at the same time!
I didn’t mean it in the sense of casualty lists. I mean it in the sense that Lincoln had a war almost completed until General McClellan, a Democrat with Presidential aspirations, delayed the ending of the war with the South in order to negotiate with the South because he sympathized with the South. This allowed Lee to hit back, and make the Civil War into a 4 year war.
Because of Lee’s victories over the North, Lincoln’s election chances were getting slim. It wasn’t until Antietam, that the tide turned, because Lee was stopped at Antietam. And it was Antietam that reelected a Republican congress.
Now we have a Democrat congress, so it is as if Antietam had never happened, and Lincoln now has to deal with the Democrats, who are sympathetic to the very enemy the North has been fighting.
Sorry, Ymarsakar…my first thought was the casualties. I still hope you are wrong!
With a saddened heart I read the New York Times this moring. Here is an except:

Democrats Push for Troop Cuts Within Months
By SHERYL GAY STOLBERG and MARK MAZZETTI
WASHINGTON, Nov. 12 — Democratic leaders in the Senate vowed on Sunday to use their new Congressional majority to press for troop reductions in Iraq within a matter of months, stepping up pressure on the administration just as President Bush is to be interviewed by a bipartisan panel examining future strategy for the war.
The Democrats — the incoming majority leader, Senator Harry Reid of Nevada; the incoming Armed Services Committee chairman, Senator Carl Levin of Michigan; and the incoming Foreign Relations Committee chairman, Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware — said a phased redeployment of troops would be their top priority when the new Congress convenes in January, even before an investigation of the conduct of the war.
“We need to begin a phased redeployment of forces from Iraq in four to six months,” Mr. Levin said in an appearance on the ABC News program “This Week.” In a telephone interview later, Mr. Levin added, “The point of this is to signal to the Iraqis that the open-ended commitment is over and that they are going to have to solve their own problems.”
The White House signaled a willingness to listen to the Democrats’ proposals, with Joshua B. Bolten, the chief of staff, saying in two television appearances that the president was open to “fresh ideas” and a “fresh look.” But Mr. Bolten said he could not envision the White House signing on to a plan setting a timetable for the withdrawal of troops.

Pray for our country. We are in dire straits.
Bosun,
Let’s all pray that Bush nips this in the bud! He’s got a couple months before they take control. Let’s pray that Bush has the strength to stand up against those who would put our troops in that position and who would willingly hand over all that has been accomplished in Iraq to the insurgents to destroy.
