Benning of Benning’s Writing Pad, has written a wonderful post about one of my favorite artists – Maxfield Parrish. So, I was inspired to share a few of Parrish’s pieces with you. In the first painting, “Evening Shadows,” you can almost feel the cool, still water. “Morning” makes me wonder what she is thinking. And the last is “Ecstacy,” can you feel her joy.

My dentist had these on his walls. I think it was to make people think pleasant thoughts before a root canal.
The model in “Morning” has such an interesting expression. Is she thinking, looking, what? In “Ecstasy” Parrish has those twisting fabrics that he used so well. “Cadmus Sowing The Dragon’s Teeth” is another that has the billowing, twisting fabric. The sky isn’t as nice as the one in “Morning”, though.
Look at me, the Art Critic! LOL
“Evening Shadows” is the best of this trio, Anna. So clean and inviting. This is probably one of the paintings where he built a model first, then painted the picture. Parrish did so many novel things to create the setting for his paintings.
Thanks for the link! I appreciate it!
Anneandper, It would work for me! I’d stare at those paintings and forget why I was there…until that drill sound started!
benning,
Trust me, it was difficult to choose just three! I love the forest ones, too. You can almost hear the birds or see a deer just around that tree. I love his “ads” and his fairytale paintings, too. OK, I love them all pretty much!
Everybody’s an art critic and you know what you like. I love the skies, too.
The water in “Evening Shadows” just makes me want to sit on that dock and dip my toes in, just to make a ripple!
And you’re quite welcome!
These are beautiful. My favorite of the 3 is “Morning”.
Anna,
Thanks for a moment of peace and beauty.
beautiful….

“Morning” is beautiful Linda. I really can’t choose just one, though!
They are almost meditative, aren’t they Andrea?!
Anna, you not only discuss the serious issues on your site, here, you’re always interjecting heavenly bits of “balance” — by often including sheer beauty, like these wonderful paintings — or wisdom-filled quotes, like those of Teddy Roosevelt, Mark Twain & Goethe. It makes visitng you site a rather “healthy” thing to do. Thanks!
Oh, Trish, that is so sweet of you! I’m glad that you enjoy your visits and I enjoy doing it. It’s one of my forms of “therapy!” When I get tired of the news, I post art. When I need a lift, I post songs or quotes or cartoons! It’s just fun!
