Will this wake anyone up? A plan to blow up multiple planes using liquid explosives in carry-on bags.
The plot was well planned, well financed and “well advanced,” U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff said at a news conference Thursday morning in Washington. It was “about as sophisticated as anything we’ve seen in recent years as far as terrorism is concerned. . . . This was not a situation with a handful of people sitting around dreaming about terrorist plots.”…
British authorities said the threat involved terrorists who aimed to smuggle liquid explosive material aboard airplanes in hand baggage, including timers and detonators that could be assembled in flight. British Home Secretary John Reid said the operation was aimed at bringing down “a number of aircraft” — reportedly at least ten — “through mid-flight explosions, causing a considerable loss of life.”
This could have been a horrible event and it was stopped with 21 arrests after months of investigation. Yet my first thought was not about how wonderful it was that this plan was foiled, but how was this going to be twisted and denounced by so many who still do not believe we are at war. And because the United States and Homeland Security became involved in any way (they were notified by British authorities that there might be a risk here as well) makes the entire thing suspect for so many. Not that it was a “real” threat because it didn’t happen here. I should be relieved and yet, my first thought is about how this event will be twisted to suit other peoples’ agendas.

Hate is more of a republican thing really. I think it is more loathing and a desire to to see America great once again.

Anna: I’m sure I don’t need to mention that any of us who point out what a victory this was for sane security policy will be accused of politicizing the event.
Those who make that ridiculous charge are the same ones falsely claim ingthat this FAILED plot means we are less safe as they continue to do everything to block the President and his use of tools liked NSA wiretapping and SWIFT bank monitoring which were central to thwarting this terrorist atrocity.

I’m all for safety and security, Mike. And I would gladly spend two hours waiting to board a plane then to get on said plane and have it blow up!
