I thought that it was the Creator who had imbued into each of us an inalienable right to these things. It is the soldier who has over time and age been the one to allow death and killing to be excused as virtue and duty. It is the soldier who has been the victim and the crime. I think we should support the troops by not making them do any more killing. Ever.

Scot misses the point about the huge contribution American soldiers make to protect inalienable rights and freedoms that our Creator has provided for us. Only Grace is free.
Scot, out of respect for my many military and military family readers, I am going to politely ask you not to comment here any longer. There is a difference in debating the issues and bashing the military. You are bashing and you are no longer welcome here.

Theway2k, you are correct, they are protecting our God given rights. Without them we would be speaking German or Japanese or no longer living because of our religious convictions.

yeah okay I’ll stop posting here. I just wnat to say bye-bye. I am sorry that you see my words as bashing of the soldiers. I think you have it backwards though. I am coming from a position that I think what they are being asked to do is more disrespectful to them than anything I have said.
My father was military, I was in the CAP, I had asthma so the military wouldn’t take me even though I went to sign up as soon as I turned 18.
So I am an adult now and believe that what our military is doing NOW is far different than anything that has been done in the past.
I’ll stop visiting your blog so you don’t have to hear any dissenting views. Feel free to visit and make me defend MY position at my blog http://www.liberaltreehugger.com

Anna, you shared the BEST part of that little piece. And how true it is! Without the blood of America’s soldiers, the “Scots” of America would have no right to speak an opinion on anything.

I have stated several times that I have no problem with the dissenting views and honest debate. But if you want to believe it’s over your differing viewpoint, you just go right ahead. You believe a lot of things that have no factual basis and I have asked to to show me where you are getting your facts and you have yet to do so. If you would like to spout your talking points without backing it up, please do so on your own blog.
Once again, I asked you to no longer post here because of the above statement not because of your differing viewpoint. Is that clear?

I have read this poem many times over the years and it still strikes the same emotion as it did the first time. Another favorite of mine is by
MAJ Michael Davis O’Donnell who was killed in action in Cambodia on 24 March 1970:
If you are able, save for them a place inside of you
and one backward glance when you are leaving,
for the places they can no longer go.
Be not ashamed to say you loved them,
though you may or may not always have.
Take what they have left and what they have taught you
with their dying and keep it with your own.
And in that time when men decide and feel safe to call the war insane,
take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind.

Welcome to NE Ohio! We do have an awesome neighborhood, Gawfer! And there are even some houses for sale! (We’re going to a wine and beer tasting party tonight at the lake…yes, we have a swim lake w/pavillion in our neighborhood!)
