A Valkyrie chooses the most heroic of warriors and brings them to their eternal glory in the halls of Valhalla.
(Painting by Edward Robert Hughes entitled The Valkyrie’s Vigil.)
In honor of our brave warriors who laid down their lives for our freedom.

Cool picture, but let us hope our brave soldiers are back to the glory of the Purple Mountain’s Majesty.
Very nice! Reminiscent of Parrish’s “Moonlight” which has that reflected moonlight, but not the moon. I like Hughes’ painting. The allusion to our soldiers is apt.
Thanks for posting this, Anna.
Theway2k, there is no doubt in my mind that they are all in heaven for their selfless acts of bravery! I love the paintings of the Romantic or Preraphaelite period.
benning, I really like Parrish, too. “Hilltop” and “Sleeping Beauty” are a couple of my favorites!
Congratulations on your move, Anna! The site looks great.
That is a beautiful painting!
Thank you Lady Jane! I got sick of the blogger problems and I think the look is much more fitting for my rose theme, don’t you?
Found some Pre-Raphaelites and others that you thus inspired with that painting of a very sanitized Valkyrie.

Lady of Shalott by Waterhouse is very nice and so is Hughes’ Ophelia.
Anna, I agree that this is a demure painting for a Valkyrie, but I didn't want to freak my dad out…he reads my blog!
Thanks for the link, I will definitely check it out. Waterhouse, Hughes and Leighton are favorites of mine as well. Illusions Gallery has some great prints, too.
Stunning Anna!..:)
Thank you, Angel, I thought she was beautiful! (Can’t have too much beauty!)
Only a warrior can relate and understand. We have fought since the Amewrican Revolution for our freedom. Thousands have went to Valhalla and yet we have yet to be recognized for your freedom.
Viet Nam Vet ……. A Forgotten Warrior
Thank you so much for commenting! You are right that the Viet Nam vets have been left out. You fought so bravely for our country and deserve accolades. I, for one, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You fought for me, for my way of life and I do recognize that. Thank you!
