Ding dong the witch is dead! And I’m not shedding a tear!
BAGHDAD, Iraq — Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Al Qaeda-linked militant who led a bloody campaign of suicide bombings, kidnappings and hostage beheadings in Iraq, has been killed in a U.S. air raid north of Baghdad, Iraq’s prime minister said Thursday.
It’s just too darn bad that bin Laden wasn’t paying a visit! But I’m thrilled that this mass murderer is DEAD!
Iraqi Police were first on the scene after the airstrike. And it has been reported that Jordanian officials were invoved in pinpointing his location based on some recent video tape.
Reports out of Baghdad state that information to Zarqawi’s location came from local residents tipping off the Iraqi Police and Security forces. One report even says that it was a member of Zarqawi’s inner circle that gave the key information.
Zarqawi was holding a meeting inside a “safe-house” about 30 miles north of Baghdad.
It is ironic that Zarqawi has been killed less than 20 miles from where Saddam Hussain was found hiding in that spider hole.
It is hoped that with the death of Zarqawi that the insurgency will start to fall apart and the differing sides in Iraq will finally come together and solve their problems.
Fox is reporting that long standing ovations and cheering at the announcement of Zarqawi’s death. Even the press corps!
There is speculation that also killed in the attack was Zarqawi’s #2 Sheikh Abdul Rahman. Rahman you may remember was the center of the initial insurgency.
The airstrike took place at about 1815 (6:15 pm) 7 June Baghdad time. Official announcement of Zarqawi’s death didn’t come until 0900 (9am) 8 June Baghdad time suggesting that there was no rush to judgement on the identification of Zarqawi’s body.
The above picture is from Fox News and it is a couple of Iraqi policemen and an old woman who are shooting their guns in the air in celebration of Zarqawi’s death! His death is good news for our troops, but even better for the Iraqi people!

I would have listed a lot more, but as anyone with Blogger knows, it’s not cooperating today (or yesterday!). I think you’ll get a great deal of information from the above links though!

Yesterday, the gates of Hell opened nice & wide.
There’s a couple more to go, but this is a great accomplishment for our troops and mostly for the Iraqis! If luck is with us, this along with the ministers being appointed in Iraq, will show the insurgents that they can’t win the battle or the war!
Anna: Looks like you ditched Blogger/Booger just in time. It hasn’t worked right the last 48 hours.
Perhaps you can do a wider, technically oriented post on what you see as the advantages of Word Press.
The only complaint I have had with that platform is that some folks set it up requiring a separate logon for each site. It makes it very difficult to comment.
Now, the subject at hand:
It is a great day! I’m looking forward to getting many of the details.
I will note that Democrats like Murtha, Kerry, Kennedy and clowns have insisted that the Iraqi people are against us, or that we are not winning their “hearts and minds.”
But the Iraqi Index from Brookings institute (left of center) shows that last year we went from 400 or so tips by Iraqis each month giving us intell on the terrorists to over 4,000.
Violence in Iraq continues, but it too is slowly going down and is occurring mostly in a handful of provinces.
Iraq is the keystone of a larger strategy to win the war on terror. And the only way we can lose is if we defeat ourselves.
A good day folks! Be proud!
P.S. Just found this video: Pretty good!
Mike, it has been very aggravating just trying to post on Blogger sites, I am very glad that I left them! The best source of information would be the WordPress FAQ page for your basic questions.
As for Iraq. I fear that we are in for a spat of higher violence, but hopefully, in the long run this is death knell for Zarqawi’s band of murderers!
Yes, blogger is a little out of whack today but who gives a #$&!–al-Zarqari is dead. A good day for America.
I hear you, Dave!
Another One Bites the Dust…
Heres how Im reading this. Zarqawi was awakened this morning by the demons of hell ….. He was delivered to the demons of hell by the United States of America Armed Forces. HOOAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!…
You said it, Dave!
Thanks for the linkage, Beth…it’s a very good day for our side!
Dave and benning, you’re just going to have to move from old blogsnot.
Wonderful news…
woke up at 4 AM to turn on Fox News, jolted into being awake…
thanks for the post…
Great News for the IRAQIS, the USA, the various Allies who helped liberate Iraq, and this fine BUSH ADMINISTRATION
hNAV, I couldn’t believe it when I first heard it and had to confirm it several times! I am thrilled that this murderer is gone. For once, the dancing in the streets in the Middle East was for something other than killing Americans!
I am trying to help plan Zarqawi’s funeral, every Islamic terrorist deserves a ‘Fred’ send off..
Ace in the Hole: I have a Plan…
Loved it, Fred! Especially the Phelps family part!
Hey, could I “steal” your TTLB icon? I just love it! (I’m still learning all the photobucket stuff).
Now we learn today that the monster Zarqawi was conscious when US Special Forces arrived. I’m glad that he knew that it was our brave men and women in Iraq that finally brought him to justice.
Yes. And the lefties kept asking, “Was he given medical attention?” “Did you do everything possible to keep him alive?” I couldn’t believe the questions at the press conference, Mike!
Hellooo…
