This is Alex (Capt. James A. (Alex) Funkhouser), with his beautiful wife and daughters. He died in the same IED explosion as the cameraman and soundman from CBS, but the press forgot that. This is a message from his wife to CJ at A Soldier’s Perspective.
“My husband Alex will be laid to rest with full military honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetary in San Antonio, TX on Friday, June 9th at 9 AM. I have just finished making the arrangements. It’s going to be a wonderful ceremony with a great celebration afterwards. Thank you to eveyone for all the support that I’ve received from family, friends, soldiers and strangers from around the country. I know Alex is just one of many, but maybe his death has and will force others to stop and notice when another soldier dies instead of barely paying attention to it in the news. I think that we are all starting to become immune to all of the death there and everywhere else. Iraq has been in our lives for the past few years and the deaths just don’t seem to be as important now. Please don’t let that happen. Take the time to notice another soldier fallen. Remember Alex and know that the next soldier is probably someone just like him.
CJ – Thanks again for posting Alex’s story.
Everone else – Keep remembering. I know that something good has to come from this.
Alex – If you can hear me: ROCK ON!!! (A little inside joke)”
CJ has further information about Alex’s funeral which will be held on Friday, June 9, 2006. There will be Patriot Guard Riders there as well. If you are in the area, attend Alex’s funeral and show his wife that he was a hero to all of us!

” we are all starting to become immune to all of the death there and everywhere else.”
That would only be true in the case of her husband and our troops.
The real heroes here are treated as statistics. Endless stories will be written about what happened to Dozier and her camera crew.
Mike, from her note, she is one strong woman! Between David at Echo9er and Grey Eagle at A Female Soldier 2, I have read the names and some of the stories of our fallen men and women. They are the heroes and I will do what I can to keep them from being forgotten or becoming nothing but a number.
Beautiful post..thank u Anna. and God bless..:)
You’re welcome, Angel. He’s another hero that is more than the number the MSM would give him.
Any loss is devastating, but when a face is put to a name, it brings it home. This post breaks my heart, but I am thankful that our troops are undaunted by the tragedies of war. These men and women are truly heros, and should be recognized as such.
Thanks again Anna for such a beautiful post.
Go Navy
You’re welcome, Gawfer and I couldn’t agree more!
Thanks for posting this Anna. It’s important for all of us to put faces to the names. Sacrifice should never be taken lightly.
You are so right, Wordsmith! I’ve got another story that I want to tell that I read over at A Female Soldier 2, you’ll need tissues!
Thanks! I wasn’t aware that anyone other than the reporter’s crew had died. Shows you how much the MSM controls the information. I linked to your post, Anna.
[...] UPDATE: A Rose by Any Other Name has a tribute from a military widow on one of the brave men who made the ultimate sacrifice. They’re doing it so that the Iraqi people and the world as a whole can be safer from thugs like Mr. gone-Kablooie. [...]
benning, thank you for linking. I think that I will start posting more stories of our fallen heroes because they are more important than being just a number to the MSM and a hash mark for the anti-Bush crew!
Tom, thanks for the link!
Fallen Heroes
Condolences to the Family, Friends, and Comrades of the following Americans who lost their lives while in the pursuit of gaining freedom for others.
May God hold them in his hands and may their families carry them forever in their hear…
GREAT letter.
Rest in Peace my Captain. May God Bless you and your Family.
Hooah!!
David
[...] Note: Anna has a letter from CPT Funkhouser’s wife here. [...]
Thanks for all the links, David. I am glad to get his story out so that he would not be forgotten! You and Grey Eagle at A Female Soldier, have inspired me to share the soldiers’ stories, so they are more than a hash mark the MSM uses for their political agenda.
I thought his wife’s letter was wonderful!
