Hello From Another Location

Just testing out different blogging hosts to see which one I would like to switch to. Blogger has been giving me headaches and my attempt to move to another never panned out. So any words of advice or encouragement, let me know!

Are you going to be able to move your archive of nifty posts here? I think wordpress allows that. Should be a button for it somewhere. Be a shame to lose them.

Besides, you can put a, “Hey! I’m here now,” page on your old site.

benning, I haven’t checked that part out yet, but I will because I don’t want to lose the posts either (although a lot of them were pretty bad!)

I think this is a really attractive blog. Just make sure that, where ever you end up moving to, you let us know how to find you.

I spent a couple days this week playing with this one and one at Eponym. And while Eponym has some nice bells and whistles, they give you very little bandwidth and space is quite limited as well. So Book…link to me here, because I believe I’m going to stay!

I want to find a blog host that provides the bandwidth as well as a good platform for organizing posts, audio and video clips and images.

Also key are means for monitoring comments and would love to find a platform that gives registered users more chances to interact without the need for a moderator.

Mike, I don’t know that “wordpress.com” would be for you, simply because of the audio and video aspect. There is also “wordpress.org” but I don’t know that much about it. There is also typepad, but I don’t know about that one, though Small Town Veteran (see side bar), has it, so you could ask him about it. Eponym, has a lot of bells and whistles, but unless you sign up for the upper level (pay for) packages the bandwidth is tiny. Hope that helps!

Anna, I’ve liked WP. I moved from blogger for a lot of reasons, one that it kept losing posts and was down so much of the time.

You can move post. It’s very simple. But you will probably have to go back and clean them up a little after you move them. Blogger uses a different format and mine, at least, were a little out of whack. Some of them still are. I just clean up a few at a time when I think about it.

I will be glad to help you all I can. Although, I’m still learning a lot myself. A lot of ppl helped me with the move. I still have ppl who are linked to my old site rather than the new one! lol

LOL about your TTBL ranking! I fell all the way down too – it’s depressing! lol

You’ll go back up – but it takes a while to get everyone to update their links. You can claim both blogs at TTBL and that way all your links get counted (when he’s counting them anyway).

You might also want to combine your blogs at Technorati.

Moving is a pain – even on blogs! lol

Beth, thanks so much for the assistance! I may just hold you to it! As for the TTLB, it should bump up as I have the two blogs combined on there and I think I got all my blogroll links updated as well as sitemeter. I wil have to check out combining my blogs on Technorati…that one I didn’t know you could combine.

Yes, moving is a pain! But I’m glad I did!

Just wanted to let you know that I’m still getting your “sidebar” at the bottom of the page, toward the left, after the oldest post showing. It’s been that way every time I’ve come over. (Isn’t it fun working the bugs out?)

Thank you, Kathryn. Actually, I think WP works through Firefox. I think I’ll have to put that little notification at the top of my blog. I don’t have control over that as far as I’ve been able to figure out, but I will see if there’s anything I can do. My dad mentioned the same thing to me, but he has a very old computer!
